God Bless anyone that rescues/saves a life. Be it human or animal…..

"PC" - I had never worked so hard at anything until the day “Popcicle” (PC) came into my life.  It was one of those normal days in late May, nothing pressing, nothing exciting until I received a call from the local shelter. It was about a young female Shepard that had been “found” in a vacant lot. The shelter “thought” that she had a broken leg but they didn’t have the funds or the resources to take care of her, so they called me to see if I could help. Turns out things were more complicated than that! Click here to read PC's story.

Chance - A Case of Mistaken “Eye”dentity
A really sweet three month old male puppy was slated for euthanasia due to a misdiagnosis. The shelter vet had found a condition called, distichiasis, (an extra row of eyelashes that grow inward that can cause blindness if not treated) on one of the three puppies that had been brought in. Chance was the last puppy left and it was taken for granted that he was the one with the eye problem. Click here to read Chance's story.
Tyson, Down For The Count…..
I happened upon Tyson at our local shelter. I had stopped in after work to see what had come in since my last rescue. I stopped in front of one cage and was admiring a really cool looking “boxer”. His ears and tail were still intact giving him a somewhat different look then your everyday boxer. As I stood there and talked to him, he would cock his head from side to side giving him a very comical look. I noticed on his info card that he was slated to be euthanized in the morning because it had been noted that he was a “pit bull”. NO WAY!!! This dog before me was not a pit bull. So after running home and collecting several different pictures of different boxers , I finally convinced the dog warden to release Tyson to me. He was later adopted out to a loving family in Pennsylvania.

Houdini, His Last Escape…..
Houdini had been picked up as a stray and because the shelter was full beyond capacity, Houdini’s last escape was going to be death. After receiving a call from one of the kennel workers, I picked him up and took him home and wouldn’t you know it, within the first hour of having him at my home, he ESCAPED. Luckily, I found him within just a few minutes. So I figured since he was a little escape artist, I would name him Houdini. Houdini was later adopted him out to a loving family who tell me that he has no desire to “escape” anymore.

Cloe, The Cast Away….
Cloe’s owner just decided one day that she didn’t want her anymore, that she was just to much trouble to take care of so she took to our local shelter and dropped her off. What a shame, such a beautiful dog. I picked her up on her last day. She was going to be put to sleep the next morning because no one had come into adopt her during her short stay at the shelter.
In the short time I had Cloe, I found her to be a sweet, quiet, gentle little girl.
I knew it wouldn’t be long before a loving family would adopt her and I was right. She was adopted out just 2 weeks later.

Hope, There Always is…..
Left pregnant and abandoned in an old run down factory in Cleveland.
She had been left to die with no food or water and no one to care for her or her puppies. Luckily, someone walking by the old factory one day heard her puppies crying and called the local shelter to come out and pick her up.
After Hope was done weaning her own puppies, which by the way, did survive, the shelter decided to use Hope as a “surrogate” mom to a litter of very young puppies whose mother had been hit and killed by a car. So in actuality, Hope saved several lives herself. After Hope had recuperated, I adopted her out to a loving family in my area.

Cleveland, A Long Way From Home….
A young couple that had been visiting some friends in Cleveland, were on there way home when all of a sudden they observed a young dog running down a busy street. Not wanting to see the young pup get hit and killed, they decided to pick him up to get him out of harms way. They noticed that he was thin and dirty and had no collar. And knew that finding its owner was going to be impossible. They called me and asked if I could take him since they lived in an apartment and were not allowed to have dogs there. They brought him out to me and he was later adopted out to a loving family.

Baron, The Blind Leading the Blind…..
Since I have been known to do (rescue) and am good with the Rottweiler breed, I would occasionally get a call from one of the local shelters whenever a “really good” Rotty would come in requesting that I take it home and later rehome it to someone who “preferably” had some knowledge on the breed. You see, as a rescuer, I have more “time” to find the dog a new home than the shelter does and I can also be just alittle more particular on who gets the dog. And it was on one of those calls that brought me to Barons aid. I knew the moment I put him in the car that something was wrong. Click here to read Baron's story.

Hershey, sweet as kisses……
I had mentioned to a friend of mine that does Peke and Chihuahua rescue that I was looking for a “pocket pet”, a tiny dog that I could take into corporate meetings and present as a mascot for my rescues and my cookies.
My wish was granted in the month of December, just two weeks before Christmas. Born in an Indiana kill shelter and just four weeks old, Hershey and his mom were slated for euthanasia, another sad case where the shelter just didn’t care. He was transported to me and when I got him, he fit in the palm of my hand. Hershey has been with me ever since and is featured on the home page of this website. He is the mascot for RK’s Death Row Rescue & Dog Gone Good Cookies. He occasionally goes with me to shows, his kisses are as sweet as chocolate and I just love him to death. Thanks Audrey.

A Playpen full of Puppies…
It was two years ago that I received several calls from 2 different women begging me to please help a mom and her 12 puppies. They were all at a shelter in Youngstown and the women had learned that the dog warden was going to put mom and her puppies to sleep at the end of the day. Click here to read their story!
