Happy Endings - "Baron"
The Blind Leading The Blind

Since I have been known to do (rescue) and am good with the Rottweiler breed, I
would occasionally get a call from one of the local shelters whenever a “really
good” Rotty would come in requesting that I take it home and later rehome it to
someone who “preferably” had some knowledge on the breed. You see, as a rescuer,
I have more “time” to find the dog a new home than the shelter does and I can
also be just a little more particular on who gets the dog. And it was on one of
those calls that brought me to Barons aid. I knew the moment I put him in the
car that something was wrong. His eyes “glowed” like they do at night only it
was 9:00 in the morning…It was evident within the first few hours that Baron was
blind. I knew this was going to be a new experience for me since I had never
owned a “blind” pet before. I decided that the best thing for him and I both
would be to teach him certain words to help him to get around. He was a very
quick learner and soon learned the words/commands for: Stop, Sit, Stay, Down,
Left, Right, Forward, Steps, Big Jump, Easy, Careful, Buddy, Door, Drink,
Cookies and the list just goes on. This is by far the sweetest most loving Rotty
I have ever had. Baron is still with me and is a Certified Therapy Dog who helps
to give back to the “human” race by providing soothing comfort for our local
senior centers.
