Happy Endings - "Chance"
A Case of Mistaken “Eye”dentity

A really sweet three month old male puppy was slated for euthanasia due to a
misdiagnosis. The shelter vet had found a condition called, distichiasis, (an
extra row of eyelashes that grow inward that can cause blindness if not treated)
on one of the three puppies that had been brought in. Chance was the last puppy
left and it was taken for granted that he was the one with the eye problem. The
consensus was since it was an expensive surgery to treat, no one had adopted
him. So on his very last day, I walked in and adopted him. I knew that sooner or
later I would figure out a way to pay for the surgery. I immediately took him
from the shelter to my vets to have him checked out and to find out “how many
bags of dog cookies” I would have to sell to pay for the surgery. After the vet
had examined him, he looked to me with a puzzled look on his face and as
“chance” would have it, the vet stated that this puppy did not have any eye
problems and that he was quite healthy! Chance was later adopted out to a loving
family.
